Eclipse Interpreting Managers, Elaine Callaghan and Lisa Wilson recently met up with several of our simultaneous interpreters while on business in London. It was a great opportunity to renew contact with our regulars, meet new contacts and put names to faces as well as update people on upcoming meetings and European Works Councils we will be working on this year.
Between them the interpreters were able to cover Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Spanish. Many of them have been helping us for many years with projects covering agriculture, commerce, environment, transport and leisure from legal hearings to business meetings to international meetings with up to 12 languages. We hope to plan similar events later this year to meet with other interpreters too!
Our interpreting business grew 55% this year and we are already busy with enquiries for 2015. If you are a conference interpreter and would be interested in working with us, please contact the Interpreting Team via the ‘Work with us’ section on our website.
Eclipse Translations seems to be employing some of the healthiest staff around! We are delighted to have achieved the first stage of a three-year Continuing Excellence Programme, part of the Better Health at Work Award for which we already have gold status.
Originally Eclipse entered the scheme to embrace health and wellbeing in our company culture; the Continuing Excellence strategy aims to improve overall awareness of major health issues and help staff make informed lifestyle choices. A recent staff poll showed the majority of us reap the benefits of taking part in regular exercise and feel that the Better Health at Work Award has impacted positively on our health and well-being.
As well as offering staff on-going access to information and advisory services, Eclipse regularly organises healthy events. In 2014, these included a fundraising day for the British Hearth Foundation in February with staff encouraged to dress in red (the charity’s main colour) and sample a range of heart healthy recipes. Summer saw the always popular Fruity Friday with delicious fresh juices and smoothies available to staff with dress code also inspired by our 5-a-day! Heading for autumn, we took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning with healthy cakes to try and buy on behalf of MacMillan Cancer Support.
Many of our healthy events are co-ordinated by the Eclipse Office Administrator Susan Bathgate who explains: “Better Heath at Work has enabled Eclipse to create a culture that promotes a healthy approach to life that goes beyond the workplace. In addition to providing information on health issues, the company has also promoted healthy eating and the benefits of exercise in a fun and engaging way. This can be evidenced by a number of staff participating in sporting activities outside the workplace and ensures that promoting the health and well being of staff remains important.”
Consequently, Eclipse customers can be assured that its staff are looking forward to 2015 and are full of energy to deal with the thousands of interpreting and translation we receive each year!

With investment trends continuing to go global and political and health issues being addressed on a world scale, the interpreting team at Eclipse Translations has seen a 55% increase in business in the past financial year.
Varied projects have seen us using our expertise in manufacturing, finance, law, medicine and the environment to create bespoke teams for each event. It’s no surprise, given current trends, that we have been increasingly asked for Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese interpreting to guide companies looking to expand their overseas business. However looking back over the year, we have supported medical appointments, commercial meetings and legal hearings in languages ranging from Farsi to French, Bengali to Bulgarian and Spanish to Somali.
Eclipse has been appointed as the preferred supplier for the translation of promotional documents in Portuguese for Brazil and Chinese.
Expert interpreters have been on hand to assist at a number of European Works Councils including meetings in Barcelona and Warsaw requiring over 20 interpreters. Teams also facilitated communications at Expert Medical Meetings in Berlin and London where international delegates gathered to progress treatments for wounds and dermatological conditions. Early summer saw interpreters turning their talents to human, environmental and political issues. We arranged teams of interpreters to support multiple meetings on the issue of transitioning government in Europe and the Middle East as well as a group of 12 French interpreters for a conference on the management of the seas and coastline of Britain and northern France. There has also been on-going support for numerous legal cases including extensive commercial and financial hearings in the UK, US and Asia.

Learning Technologies, co-located with Learning and Skills, is now the biggest exhibition and conference in the entire corporate learning sector. It’s also the best attended and fastest growing.
Eclipse Translations is taking part in this one-day business event for manufacturers.
Increasingly training is done on a global basis with some or all participants needing assistance to make sure they fully understand everything being said. Any training course requires careful planning but adding this language dimension makes attention to detail even more important. Your course format will have a knock on effect on equipment, technical support, room layout, interpreting style and ultimately budget. Time spent working out the fine detail initially will avoid any nasty surprises later on.
